How to fix office chair squeak

Have you ever been bothered by a squeaky chair? Squeaky chairs can be a nuisance to both the person sitting in them and others in the room. Fortunately, those annoying noises don't mean it's time to buy a new chair. If you check your squeaky chair properly, you can easily fix the problem.

    Lubrication of metal parts

Inspect nuts, bolts and screws. The first thing to do is turn the chair over and look at its parts, then get a screwdriver or wrench and tighten any loose parts as well as the parts that don't look loose. Over time, it is easy for the screws to become loose causing some parts to come loose, making the chair squeak.

Lubricate mounting mechanisms. Apply lubricant to all nuts, bolts and screws to help make joints smooth. Simply spray oil on a soft cotton cloth and rub the oil on problem areas to get more control where you apply the oil.

Humidity in air and air conditioners causes rust, so applying oil regularly will prevent rust from developing and building up.

Completely remove the screws and bolts before adding any lubricant. If the seat still squeaks after adding the lubricant, tightening all the screws and bolts, remove them all, and lubricate them with a little oil before reinstalling them.

Have your friend sit on the chair while applying the oil. Have someone sit in a chair and rotate it from side to side to help you identify the squeaking area. Once a weight is placed on the chair, it squeaks allowing you to more easily locate the source of the noise for more accurate oil application. Ask your friend to roll the chair every time you apply the oil so she can see if you're oiling in the right place.

Install the spring in the back of the chair. The chair can also squeak when you recline, which is caused by too much pressure as the end of the spring is rubbing against the end of the housing. To fix this, apply oil to the seat spring located inside the rotary handle housing and simply make the tensioned seat swivel seat loose and remove the rotary handle to spray the oil into the housing.

Rotate the chair back and forth to check the wheels. Office chairs often have wheels that move around a lot, so the wheel hubs may need to spray some silicone on them over time. Turn the chair over and spray the wheels, then adjust again and move the chair to spread the silicone around the entire wheel.

Sit gently. The chair collapsing will eventually cause squeaks as the chairs go through a lot of wear, so be careful when sitting on the chair so you don't rush to loosen the joints to keep your chair silent.
